About the Department

Established in the academic year 1998-99 with an intake of 60 for the Bachelor course in Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) the department manifests its pace of progression in its present state with an increased intake of 180. In view of the accentuated interest towards CSE and its immensity of growth the Department of Computer Science and Engineering has developed nine well appointed laboratories where the main focus is on the development of logical reasoning that is stressed upon, in all practical applications. Studded by talented productive teaching professionals, the department boasts of promoting a unique mode of teaching-learning setting; one that makes an effective utilization of the advanced aids of teaching. The students of this department win the acclaim of the department for realizing the expectations of the institute by grabbing lucrative positions in some of the top notch software/hardware organizations in India like TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Sierra Atlantic, MAQ Software, Cognizant and HCL. Many others of them obtain admissions in the reputed American/ UK/Australian Universities for Higher Courses in M.S. and Ph.D, with scholarships. The department is making its strides of progress with the zenith motto of preparing professionals of high competence needed for the industry. The department provides a high end computer system with facilities to work on various platforms under the tutelage of well trained faculty.

M.Tech in Computer Science & Engineering(CSE) programme:

It started in the academic year 2005-06.  The motivation behind starting the programme was the fact that the IT industry needs many software engineers, with specialized knowledge in Software Engineering and M.Tech (CSE)  being and advanced level course open for CSE and IT graduates is well suited to provide needed technical manpower for Industry.

The duration of the course is four semesters. The Course work is conducted in the first two semesters, while the third and fourth semesters are dedicated for project work. The students thus have an opportunity for doing reasonably real time live  projects and get fully prepared to readily take up assignments in the software industry. The present intake for the program is 18.

Dr. SREENIVASULU GONUGUNTLA has earned his B.E ( Electronics) in 1990 from Maratwada University, Aurangabad. He received his M.Tech (CSE) from JNTU, Anantapur in 2004. He was awarded with Ph.D. degree from Sri Satya Sai University of Technology & Medical Sciences in 2021. He is an Associate Professor and Head, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, J.B. Institute of Engineering and Technology, Hyderabad. He has 8 years of Industry, 27 years of academic and 9 Years of Research Experience. He has published many research articles in reputed Journals, Conferences and contributed book chapters. His research interests include High Performance Computing, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Deep Learning and Bigdata. He is life Member of Computer Society of India (CSI).

Infrastructure / Laboratories

Infrastructure Details The department owns 250 latest computer systems with high configuration and upgraded software and maintains an exclusive lab with 1 to 1 ratio for each subject. Department has enough labs which are used for all the years on timetable basis to meet the curriculum requirements. We have six labs with 30 numbers of systems and each lab occupies an area of 83.5 sq.m. Desktop systems with required software and ups support are provided in each lab. All labs are equipped with sufficient hardware and licensed software to run program specific curriculum and off program curriculum. Each lab is equipped with white/black board, computer, internet, and other amenities. Each lab has high utilization rate and ventilization.

ACM as a Global Organization

The ACM JBIET Student Chapter

The JBIET Hyderabad Student Chapter of the ACM was established in 2014 to address the needs of the JBIET Hyderabad computing community. Goal of the chapter is to create interest among the students for computer science apart from what they learn during the course work. The chapter organizes talks and workshops on different subjects by speakers who are well known in their area. These talks give students opportunities to learn about advanced research subjects. 1. Mind Map:

      A mind map is a diagram used to visually organize information. A mind map is hierarchical and shows relationships among pieces of the whole. It is often created around a single concept, drawn as an image in the center of a blank page, to which associated representations of ideas such as images, words and parts of words are added. Major ideas are connected directly to the central concept, and other ideas branch out from those.

 

Objectives:

1. To generate, visualize, structure, and classify ideas, and as an aid to studying and organizing information, solving problems, making decisions, and writing.

2. To help students with critical and creative thinking and improve their problem-solving ability at the same time.

Outcomes:

1. The study's ability of both students and faculty will get accelerated by improving and enhancing their retention with the combination of photography and information.

2. Problem Solving Ability of students will get improved.

 

2. Flipped Class Room:

      The flipped classroom is a teaching approach where our students get their first exposure to course content before coming to class through readings and video lectures. They then spend in-class time engaging in activities that we’ve designed to promote a deeper understanding of a concept.

Objectives:

1. To promote flexible learning among students.

2. To facilitate increased engagement between students and faculty.

3. To provide prompt and timely feedback to students based on their out of class assessment performance.

Outcomes:

1. Resonate well with those who are high performers and those who tend to underperform.

2. Enhance Faculty interaction with students by scheduled class meetings for dialogue.

3. 100 Pins:

      100 Pins is a great local community& mailing facility to share course materials to students through a valid account. JBIET is utilizing this site for better interaction with students in online mode.

4. Activity-based learning:

      The activity method is a technique adopted by a teacher to emphasize his or her method of teaching through activity in which the students participate rigorously and bring about efficient learning experiences. Learning by doing is the main focus of this method. Learning by doing is imperative in successful learning since it is well proved that more the senses are stimulated, the more a person learns and longer he/she retains.

Objectives:

1. To enhance the creative aspect of the experience.

2. To build the student’s self-confidence and to develop understanding through work in their group.

Outcomes:

1. Happy relationships between students and students, teachers and students will be developed.

5. Learning by doing:

     Our CSE department has two dedicated labs for implementing “Learning by doing” methodology. Those labs are located at room no 114 & 115 in the main block of JBIET. In these labs, students are provided with hands-on training on various technologies for the better learning experience. Labs and classes are held together to implement “Learning by doing”.
