Brief History of NCC
The origins of NCC can be traced to the University Corps established in 1917 during the British era to train students for military service. It was later renamed the University Training Corps (UTC) in 1920 and subsequently the University Officers Training Corps (UOTC) in 1942.
Following India's independence, the need for a nationwide youth organization was recognized. Based on the recommendations of the Kunzru Committee formed in 1946, the NCC Act was passed in 1948, leading to the establishment of the National Cadet Corps on 15 July 1948.
The organization expanded to include girls in 1949, while Air Force and Naval Wings were introduced in 1950 and 1952 respectively. Today, NCC is one of the largest uniformed youth organizations in the world.
