Mining

 

Mining Engineering of JBIET started in the academic year 2011-2012 with an annual student intake of 60. This course is approved by AICTU and affiliated to JNTU (H).

Currently Sri.CH.Veera reddy is heading the department. He completed M.Tech(Mine Planning) from Osmania university in the year 1995. He is having more than 35 yrs industry experience in M/s SCCL. He is also having first class mines manager certificate.

Mining Engineering Department is handled by a team of highly qualified and motivated faculty.

Vision & Mission

VISION

The vision of the mining engineering department is to produce mining engineers suitable to the mining industry, having capability to face day to day challenges along with safety in mines.: This will be achieved by strengthen in syllabus content, and student interaction with mining industry in both underground mining and opencast mining. Our course content helps the student to strengthen his knowledge in the subject but more than that it also helps to assimilate it to generate new knowledge at par with national standards. Course content is giving equal importance to skill development to meet the needs of mission of the state and the nation. Empowering the students to become technologically vibrant, innovative and emotionally matured. Students who are fully equipped with recent trends in the mining can implement the practice of sustainable development in the mines.

Infrastructure

  • Geology Lab with all types of minerals & rocks that should know by a Mining Student
  • A well setup of Mine Environmental Engineering (Mine Ventilation) lab with major equipements like Gas Detectors, Anemometers, Latest model In-Built CAP LAMPs etc.- First Engineering college in AP having these many Ventilation lab equipments.
  • Two more labs ie. Mineral Processing lab and Rock Mechanics lab are already established with latest available instruments.
  • Surveying Lab having all the required instruments like Prismatic Compass, Dumpy Levels, Theodolites, Total Station etc.


Department has very well equipped laboratories such as Geology, Electrical & Electronics and Mechanical, under the supervision of respective Engineering Departments.

SME - JBIET is a student society formed under the department of Mining Engineering,J.B.Institute of Engineering and Technology with the sole objective of uniting the Mining engineers all over the nation and creating a new tech -revolution.we conduct technical fests , workshops etc for the Mining Engineering students and provides a platform for them to showcase their talents alongside developing their technical skills.We have framed a student's association having the legal authority and responsibility to as an official, incorporated, representative body for our members.We build credibility through transparent and accountable governance, consistent and effective management, principled advocacy and successful operations. 

Our solid foundation is based on dedicated and passionate staff and students.The Students’ Association seeks to understand and adapt to our members’ needs through engagement, outreach, communication, representation, advocacy, peer support, and service provision. We are an integral part of the student experience.The Students’ Association cultivates healthy, productive, and sustainable relationships internally and externally.   • Department of Mining Engineering conducted two days National Level Technical symposium Xploit'17 on 13th & 14th March 2017. Sri.A.J.Amarnath, CGM(Retd)-M/s SCCL attended as chief guest. Students from JNTU Manthani, Mallareddy college and Holimary institute of engineering & technology are participated along with JBIET students

  • "Mining Engineering Department organised a guest lecture on MINE PLANNING SOFTWARES on 21/01/2017. Speaker: Mr.Amjad Pash from M/s EDS Technologies, Hyderabad" All the 2nd, 3rd and 4th yr mining students are participated.

  • Dept of Mining Engineering conducted a national level technical seminar XTRCTO'16 on 10th march 2016. Students from different engineering colleges have participated in the seminar. Guest of Honor was Er.Chandramohan, Member of council, Institution of Engineers, Telangana chapter. Different events like Paper presentation, technical quiz, model presentation, video presentation were conducted on the day.

  • Future Prospects For Mining Engineers" on 5th August 2014. Sri.B.Ramesh Kumar, Ex.CMD of NMDC Limited delivered a lecture

  • Dr.Mohan Yellishetty (MAusIMM CP-Min), Sr.Lecturer(Mining) from Monash University, Australia visited Mining Engineering Department on 11/07/2014 and interacted with faculty & students of the department. Also given valuable suggestions & guidance to the students regarding their career.  

  • Dept of Mining Engineering conducted a National Level Technical Fest 2014 on March 15th. More than 90 students from different engineering colleges participated in the event. Total 200 participants were participated in the event. Chief guest was Mr.Lolla Sudhakar, General Manager(Mining, M/s Coastal Projects Ltd, Hyderabad. Many events like Paper Presentation, Technical Quiz, Model Presentation & Art Gallery are conducted as part of the event

  • A seminar for the students of both 2nd and 3rd year Mining in the month of December. The speakers are Mr. K.Ramchandra Reddy, Professor of NIT-Suratkal(Karnataka) and Mr. Sathish, Manager in Infosys(Hyderabad). The speakers have discussed about the career path of the students and gave a good guidance to them.

  • Department of Mining Engineering was conducted a workshop on "Latest Developments on Underground Coal Mining" on 07-03-2014

  • Guest Lecture on “Career in Mining Industry” Dr. K. Ramchander Reddy, Associate Prof. NIT Suratkal on 12 December 2013

Faculty Achievements

  1. Sri. Ch. Veera Reddy, Professor, Dept of Mining Engineering, Presented and published a paper on “Slope Stability Issues in Godavary Valley Coalfields – Case Studies” in All India Seminar on “Slope Stability Issues in Opencast Mining and Civil Engineering (SSIOMCE/15) at NIT Rourkela during July 25-26, 2015.

  2. Sri. B. Vidyasagar, Asst.Professor, Dept of Mining Engg., Published a Paper on “Highwall Mining” in Mining Engineers Journal (An organ of Mining Engineering Association of India). MEJ- March 2015 issue, Vol.16, Page 19 to 22 & 27.

  3. Dr.  P.Hanmanth Reddy HOD was invited to chair a technical session on “Sedimentary Basins of Peninsular India –Tectonics and Mineralization” on 19th February 2015 by Geological Survey of India Southern Region, Hyderabad. Two day event i.e., 18th & 19th February 2015 was conducted by Ministry of Mines and Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India. He accepted the invitation and presided over the Technical session on 19th February 2015 from 10:00AM To 12:30PM. This Regional Brainstorming Session was conducted on eve of 36th International Geological Congress, will be held at New Delhi 2020.

  4. Dr. P. Hanmanth Reddy, HOD (Mining) delivered lecture at Geological Survey of India Training Institute, Hyderabad on 10th November 2014 on the following topics.
    • In forenoon session: Depositional sedimentary environments (11AM to 1:30PM)
    • Afternoon session: Sedimentary structures and their significance Statistical analysis on grain size data (2:30 PM to 5:30 PM).
    • Those lectures were delivered at refreshers course in sedimentary petrography and heavy minerals studies conducted by the GSI, Hyderabad from 10th November to 19th November 2014 in Hyderabad.   

  5. Sri. K. Srinivas Rao, Associate Professor breguet replica watches , Mining Engineering Department got first prize in an essay competition on “Engineer in 2040” Which was conducted on 15th September 2014, on the occasion of the Engineers days. The competition was among faculty members of JBIET Hyderabad.  

Student Achievements

  • Mr.Arun, Roll no.13671A2502(2013-17 batch) got GOLD medal for achieving overall college topper for the year 2013-17
  • Final year students of 2014-18 batch Mr.K.Aravind reddy and Ashok Reddy got placed in M/s RAMCO cements Ltd.
  • Our final year students of 2014-18 participated in National Mining day observed on November 1st organized by MEAI-Hyderabad. Student participated in many events like quiz, debate, essay writing competion, elocution and won many prizes.

Papers Published

  1. B.Tech 2nd yr students Mr.Akhil Chandra, Mr.Raj shekar and Mr.Raghunandan participated in a State Level Technical Fest conducted by Mother Therissa Engineering College, Peddapalli, Karimnagar Dist. They got 2nd Prize in paper presentation.
  2. Mining Engineering students of JBIET participated in a National Level Technical Fest conducted by Godhavari Institute of Engg & Tech, Rajhamundry on 28th & 29th March and won 2nd prize in Paper Presentaion. Prize distribution done by Mr. Laxminarayana, Director of Mines Safety
  3. Mining Engineering students of JBIET are participated in a National Technical Fest conducted by Mother Therissa Engineering college, Peddapalli, Karimnagar District and got 11 prizes in all the events including first prize in Paper presentation, Technical Quiz, Video Presentation and Model Presentation.

  2. A cricket team from Mining department won 1st prize in CLIQUE college level Cricket tournament organised by ECE department on 7th to 9th January. 
  3. Mr.Ameerul Huda B.Tech Mining student won Ist prize in 100m run in JNTUH university level inter college tournament organized by Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad on the occasion of Engineer's day on 18/09/2014.
